From Algarrobo: Startup develops water purification systems to combat water scarcity in communities

“Clean and safe water should be a right, not a privilege. Our goal is to bring technology to those who need it most in a practical and environmentally friendly way,” says Pablo Cassorla, founder of Remote Waters, a startup that originated in Algarrobo.

According to information from the Ministry of Public Works and the General Directorate of Water Resources in 2024, a total of 58 municipalities in seven provinces of the country are under a water scarcity decree. Coquimbo, Atacama, and Valparaíso are the regions with the largest populations affected by the water crisis.

As a result of this problem, which has escalated to a global level, a Chilean startup has designed a solution based on local innovation. Remote Waters , a technology company founded in Algarrobo in 2018, develops rapidly installable water purification systems that are already improving the quality of life in communities with limited access to water.

The project, which began as a family initiative, now has an international presence and includes more than 20 projects implemented in three countries . Its model combines design, integration, installation, and maintenance of solutions designed for places where drinking water is a scarce resource.

“Clean and safe water should be a right, not a privilege. Our goal is to bring environmentally friendly technology to those who need it most,” says Pablo Cassorla , founder of Remote Waters.

Water footprint

One of the company's most recent milestones was its participation in Aster Demo , a program organized by the Aster accelerator in Antofagasta, backed by Minera Escondida (BHP). Remote Waters was one of the winning startups in the competition, receiving US$20,000 in funding to continue its expansion.

“Aster’s support not only validates our work, but also provides us with the tools and networks necessary to scale up. Furthermore, it allows us to contribute in the north of the country, helping the mining industry reduce its water footprint and replace water trucks with more sustainable reuse solutions ,” Cassorla adds.

Extend the model

The startup is already working with suppliers in the northern region and plans to extend its franchise model to other countries, in addition to opening new lines of business such as water audit consulting and solutions for real estate projects.

With this new impetus, this venture consolidates its purpose: to transform the way communities and companies access drinking water, in a scenario where water scarcity demands urgent, concrete and scalable responses.
