Opinion: Chile, a country of sustainable export solutions

December 11,2023

Our territory possesses unique characteristics that foster the validation of innovative initiatives to address the major challenges facing humanity today. Chile's diverse geography, climate, and ecosystems allow for the testing, piloting, and market launch of a wide variety of projects, especially given that it is considered one of the countries most vulnerable to environmental problems, meeting 7 of the 9 vulnerability criteria established by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Thus, our country has become a living laboratory for the development of sustainable responses, with innovative, scientific and technological potential to mitigate and adapt to the impact of the climate crisis, in addition to a highly professionalized human capital and a strong entrepreneurial spirit.

As a result, technology-based companies that deliver solutions to climate change (Climatech) have been responsible for providing precise answers to environmental challenges, and they have the potential to expand into international markets and solve global problems.

These solutions offer proven and supported quality, the reputation of which has led 65% of Climatech Chile's member companies to export their technologies to other territories in the region and the world, thus contributing to mitigating the climate crisis. This data demonstrates that Chilean technology and talent possess the appropriate tools and resources to address environmental challenges, and therefore our mission today is to strengthen, support, promote, and further position the quality of Climatech solutions in international markets.

In this regard, COP28, where Chile is actively participating through a Pavilion and a ProChile Business Delegation, is one of the platforms that will showcase these solutions and demonstrate that the country is developing cutting-edge technology. In fact, Climatech Chile and six member companies—Remote Waters, Suncast, Kilimo, Instacrops, Reciclapp, and EnergyLab—are participating in this Summit and will demonstrate how their innovations are optimizing processes, maximizing their clients' operational performance and results, and accelerating their technological adoption so they can meet their corporate commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals.
We believe it is important to increase opportunities to publicize the progress being made in Chile. We are confident that our country can achieve a much more prominent and decisive role in science and technology to accelerate adaptation to the consequences of climate change.
