Ten innovative water management initiatives will be showcased at Expo Agua Santiago 2026 thanks to a call for proposals from the Santiago Government and the Santiago-Maipo Water Fund

  • The winners will have a fully equipped stand to showcase their solutions during the main Ibero-American water security summit, which will take place on August 5 and 6. 

Santiago, June 2026. Innovation, collaboration, and commitment to water security will have a privileged space at Expo Agua Santiago 2026 thanks to the call from the Santiago Government, the Metropolitan Regional Council (CORE), and the Santiago-Maipo Water Fund, which promoted the inclusion of all relevant actors and water users in the sixth edition of this meeting, considered the main event on water security in Ibero-America.

Social organizations, municipalities, public services, entrepreneurship and small and medium-sized enterprises presented solutions aimed at facing the challenges of the water crisis through innovation, efficiency, environmental education, green infrastructure and new technologies.

The Governor of Santiago, Claudio Orrego, congratulated the winners and emphasized that the projects reflect the talent, innovation, and commitment that exist in our region to address one of the greatest challenges of our time: water security. “From the Santiago government, we will continue to promote these initiatives, because solutions to the water crisis require collaboration, creativity, and concrete action.”

For her part, Cristina Huidobro, general manager of the Santiago-Maipo Water Fund, praised the interest generated by the call for proposals and the potential of the projects received. “We hope that Expo Agua Santiago 2026 will be a showcase for these initiatives to highlight their work, forge new alliances, and project their impact for the benefit of the Maipo basin and its inhabitants, amidst the structural drought we are currently experiencing,” she stated.

The proposals were evaluated by a specialized technical committee that considered criteria such as territorial impact, innovation, citizen participation, sustainability and coherence with regional objectives in water security.

Selected projects:

  • 1. Be Santiago: visibility of companies in the water sector.

  • 2. Municipality of Maipú: Sponge Commune + SMAPA: Water Museum project and citizen participation.

  • 3. Municipality of Vitacura: Green Infrastructure Plan.

  • 4. CIREN: GeoSantiago Portal

  • 5. PUC: Decentralized reuse of greywater.

  • 6. Red Cross: WASH solutions for health and community resilience.

  • 7. Volunteers for water and citizen science 

  • 8. Instadrop: an artificial intelligence assistant specializing in irrigation management.

  • 9. AQUA4D for Water Efficiency

  • 10. Remote Waters: circular greywater reuse.

The selected projects will have the opportunity to showcase their initiatives on August 5 and 6 during Expo Agua Santiago 2026, an event co-organized by the Santiago Metropolitan Government, the Metropolitan Regional Council, the Santiago-Maipo Water Fund, and Interexpo. Now in its sixth year, the expo will bring together authorities, businesses, academia, social organizations, and national and international experts to address the main challenges of water security.
